THE BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND - THE RESURRECTION OF PIGBOY CRABSHAW
Paul Butterfield learnt the harmonica, which would become his unique trademark, during his mid-teens when he would sneak into Chicago blues joints and pester the great blues artists of the mid-1950s Chicago scene. An energetic and imaginative musician that had the blues cursing through his veins from morning till night, he moved conceptually through various stages and reached new heights with this offering from 1967. While aware that many a Butterfield fan prefers his earlier recordings, which are beautiful, this recording takes a new direction with jazzy brass, blues harmonica, and plenty of soulful improvisation. As ever Butterfield lets the music do the talking and take him to new heights. A superb contribution to the 60s blues explosion.
