CAPTAIN BEEFHEART - SAFE AS MILK
Featuring a 20 year old Ry Cooder this album has often been considered to be rock. Its certainly a leap from the traditional blues of 50's, but this is yet another 1967 masterpiece that oozes the blues soul. In places it is jerky and raucous, in others it is sublime and grainy. Once described as the most powerful white man's blues voice in the ever, listen to this CD and you will understand that this is simply one of the most powerful blues voices in the world. There is a depth and resonance to the Don Van Vliet's voice that is unmatched by many and which clearly has the reverberant soul of the original blues field hollering from decades before. From the slide guitar that starts the album with 'Sure 'Nuff 'n' Yes I Do.' all the way through to the echoing chasms of 'Autumn's Child' this album is a magical experience. Nobody should be without this most original and enchanting blues album, it should be considered everyman's birthright to have a copy.
