ERIC CLAPTON - SESSIONS FOR ROBERT J
OK. If you like the blues and you've not got any Robert Johnson you need this. Some people are put off by the original recordings because of the lo-fi quality, although most of us find it to be another authentic attraction, but this is a very well produced album indeed. No pyrotechnics, except for Clapton and his some time accompaniest Doyle Bramhall II. Largely the music is the same as that on 'Me and Mr Johnson', but if you don't have that get this instead. The live DVD is an absolute gem, Clapton seems almost relaxed and watching this is certainly a mellow but uplifting experience. There are no heirs and graces, with recording largely in a derelict building said to have been the same one that the old master used to make a recording in too. With no comforts save for a persian style rug, Clapton was clearly trying to touch base with the spirit of the man who influenced and shaped his life, in our opinion he does just that.
